biography

Angela Church is an Oklahoma native currently
living in Seminole, Oklahoma. She graduated with
an Associate of Art in 1994 from Seminole State
College. After committing a period of time as a
mother to two small children, she returned to
collegiate studies and received a Bachelor in Art
with a Minor in Education in 2001 from East Central
University in Ada, Oklahoma. With a significant
interest in learning the different stages of artistic
development that individuals encounter
developmentally, she worked for three years in
private and public schools. From 2001-2002
Church worked at School of the Plains in Edmond,
Oklahoma teaching art to children from the ages of
three to fourteen until the school unfortunately
closed. From 2002-2004 she worked as a junior
high art instructor in the Sulphur Public School
System. With a need to move further in her own
artistic development, Church resigned from
teaching to pursue a Master of Fine Arts Degree
from the University of Oklahoma with an emphasis
in Sculpture.
While attending OU, she taught Beginning Drawing
and Art for Non-Majors 3-D Design. Church also
worked in a collaborative effort and assisted with a
historical exhibition of images from the University of
Oklahoma's Printmaking Collection. "Sixty Years of
Printmaking at the University of Oklahoma" was a
comprehensive exhibit showcasing the past six
decades of printmaking from the 1940's to 2006
with student work exhibited next to the prints of their
respective professors.
Church taught Fundamentals of Art I & II and
Printmaking I at Seminole State College from
January of 2008 until May 2009. She began
teaching virtual high school art online in March of
2009 with Advanced Academics headquartered in
Bricktown in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She taught
Fundamentals of Art, Fundamentals of Art
Appreciation, Fundamentals of Art History,
Introduction to Drawing, Introduction to Graphic
Design and Middle School Art Appreciation 6, 7, 8
to students nationwide. Church was a co-writer of
the course, Introduction to Drawing, (released July
1, 2010) alongside Kacie Hill, Jeff Beekman and
Anita Cornelious who also developed the course.
Church was awarded the Ron Taylor Award for
outstanding contributions to quality and excellence
in 2010 and was promoted to the position of lead
teacher at the beginning of the Fall 2010 semester
for the Electives Department, where she worked
until July 2011.
Church then took a teaching position closer to
home at Earlsboro Public Schools in August 2011,
where she currently teaches art to 4th through 12th
grade students. Church is the sponsor of the
student led organization called (SWAT) Students
Working Against Tobacco.
Church's personal artwork is autobiographical in
nature as she explores various issues involving the
deconstruction and reconstruction of personal
identity.
